Well, whoever equated feeding multiples to trying to herd cats was right!  We got the clearance to start trying some rice cereal for the boys and man is it tough; the first few times they were not interested at all.  When I put it in their mouth they looked at me like I had grown a second head!  But last night, they showed some interest and we had our best feeding yet.  However, it is quite tough to feed all three of them at once but I guess the upside is we are all learning patience, mom included 🙂

The boys have all had a cold this past week; when you walk in their room it sounds like a pen full of piggies from all their snorting.  So they’ve been grumpy and because I’ve been sick also, our house has not been the most cheerful place to be 😦  But we all seem to be getting better and just in time for all the Christmas festivities.  We can’t wait to enjoy our first Christmas with Rowan, Elliott,  and Finn and all of our family members.  I hope everyone has been doing well and are enjoying the holidays.  Ross has been doing well but he was been working way to many hours; on the bright side of things, at the end of this month he will be halfway done with his intern year!  It has gone by in a hurry; of course I’m not the one working the 80 hour weeks 😉  So hugs and kisses all around; we miss everybody and hope to see some of you soon.

Lots of love,

R

Happy 6 month birthday tots! December 8, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — patricktatertots @ 11:11 pm

Wow, it’s been 6 months since the boys were born!  Time is just flying by these days and we are all doing great.  All of the boys went for their 6 month check up and their weights are: Rowan – 11 lbs. 2 oz.; Elliott – 11 lbs. 6 oz.; and Finn – 10 lbs. 15 oz.  And Finn is exactly one inch shorter than both Rowan and Elliott.  Overall they are doing really good; of course they are still really small but I know they will catch up one day and I’ll be wondering where my little boys went.

Their personalities are all starting to come out and they are each very unique.  The new thing in the house is lots of jabbering and chatterboxing; Rowan does it the most but Finn and Elliott jump in when the mood is right.  It is so nice to finally see a response to all the crazy things I do and say to them 🙂  And they are all laughing and they love to dance.  I take them dancing around the room in my arms and Ross teaches them how to break dance on the floor; at this rate they will be a hit on the dance floor later in life.  Of course, we’re gearing up for Christmas and I’m planning on enjoying my last year of having a tree with breakable ornaments on it; I already have fears about when they all start walking!  My house is nowhere near baby-proof; heck, I’m not even sure I can babyproof this old house.

And with the boys 6 month birthday today came a big event; for the first time since they all left the hospital, they aren’t all in the same bed.  Them all sleeping together has been one of my greatest joys since they have come home; it is the most incredible scene to walk in on them all snuggled up close.  But over the last few weeks, they have all become more active and it became apparent that Finn would like some space; or more appropriately he would like it if Elliott wouldn’t kick him in the head in the mornings 🙂  So we finally moved the second crib into the nursery and Rowan and Elliott are in one bed and Finn is in the other.  Rowan and Elliott still love to snuggle together so we will let them stay together as long as they are comfortable.

And the only thing on the radar screen is Rowan will be having a cranial ultrasound to check out the growth of his head; he’s had 2 big growth spurts in his head circumference and our doc just wants to make sure everything is ok.  Personally, I think he was just lucky enough to be blessed with his daddy’s big noggin but we’ll see what the professionals say.  Other than that we are just rocking along and trying to get ready for Christmas; for some reason it’s taking me much longer to get stuff done this year, I don’t know why that could be…  I hope things are going great for everybody and hopefully you’ve been good all year so you can get some good presents from Santa!  If not, you can just join the rest of us in the lump of coal club!

Lots of love,

Renita

Things I’m Thankful for… November 27, 2008

Looking back over this past year, i have so many things to be thankful for.  That our beautiful boys have made it from the pictures above to the handsome little men down below.  That I still have my health after a very difficult pregnancy and delivery; that I still have some shred of mental sanity left after this journey (this may be debatable depending on who you ask 😉  I’m thankful for my husband, Ross, who has become the incredible father I always knew he was; he has been unfailingly giving and has helped me laugh through the tears of this journey.

For my friends and family that have stood by me in what has arguably been the toughest year of my life; I woudn’t have made it through without each of you.  You’ve helped me laugh, helped me cry, and in the case of a few of my friends, have offered to hide the bodies of people I wanted killed!  Now that’s the test of a friendship.

You know, I’m somewhat ashamed to admit that many times over this past year when things seemeds so difficult I didn’t think I could make it through, I thought, “Why me God?  Why did you choose this journey for me?”  however, now when I look at all of my blessings, I think the same thoughts.  Why me?  How did I get so lucky to be so blessed in my life right now.  Many times over this past year, people have reminded me that God will never give you more than you can handle…I usually responded that he had more faith in me than I had in myself!  But somehow I was chosen as the lucky one to endure so much pain and heartbreak, but now I have been chosen to enjoy so many blessings that I can’t count.  Thank you doesn’t begin to express what I feel for those that have supported me, Ross, Rowan, Elliott, and FInn on this incredible adventure.  So here’s to wishing everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving that I hope is full of blessings, both big and small.

Much love,

Renita

Long time, no post November 17, 2008

As the title mentions, it’s been quite a while.  I was wondering why no one had commented on their 5 month birthday update, but when I checked the site, it never posted 😦  So we’ll just have a large catch up post!  The boys are all still hanging out at about 10 lbs and are all doing great; we have recently gone to a great schedule and most nights the boys sleep 10-12 hours.   That magical sound you hear is one of a happy momma and daddy who are getting their sleep 🙂

I keep thinking the boys are going to go through some enormous growth spurt and finally make it out of 0-3 month clothing (we are 5 months old after all) but so far it is not happening!  But they are making lots of progress in other developmental areas.  They are all cooing with Rowan being the biggest chatterbox so far; of course lots of great smiles on demands.  I swear Elliott’s grin takes up his entire little face; and his new thing when he gets excited is to kick his little feeet ninja style.  Cutest thing ever!  Finn has been doing so much better since we have gone to a schedule; it really seems to have settled him down.  The routine seems to agree with all of us so far.  The boys all still love doing their tummy time and can all roll from tummy to back.  Enjoy all the pictures and thanks for checking in.  Keep your eyes out for some upcoming Christmas pictures; I’ll just warn you that their outfits are super cute!

The Double Digit Club November 3, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — patricktatertots @ 2:44 pm

Well, all of the boys are in the double digit club for weight now; Finn was 10 lbs. even, Rowan was 10 lbs. 1 oz., and Elliott was the winner at 10 lbs. 3 ozs.  They are finally starting to fill out a little bit but are still pretty scrawny.  It’s crazy to think of how far they have come in such a short period of time.  They are smiling all the time now and are really close to laughing 🙂 Their favorite time of the day is bath time hands down; they absolutely love it.  If they are having a bad day, a bath can always cheer them up.  Of course we are all looking forward to the holidays; what’s better than getting to visit with family and eat lots of yummy food at the same time???  So we send lots of love to everyone and hope all is well with you and yours.

Much love, R

Happy 4 Month Birthday Tots! October 8, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — patricktatertots @ 9:44 am

Well the boys are 4 months old today and are doing great. they have been going through a big growth and developmental spurt these last 2 weeks.  At their last weigh in, they were all about 8 1/2 lbs but I have a feeling they are all around 9 lbs now; we have a few double chins now, but no Michelin rolls to speak of yet.  They have been doing lots of new things here lately; they are all having longer periods  awake and have really improved with their eye contact.  Sometimes they reach out for toys and Rowan even rolled over the other night.  I heard him crying on the monitor and when I went to check on him, he had rolled over and was not happy about it!

We also started our Synagis shots to hopefully prevent RSV this winter; they boys will get the shot each month until either March or April.  RSV is particularly scary for preemies; due to this we will probably not be out and about much with the boys and may have to limit exposure even at the house.  I hope everybody understands but after so many months in the hospital, the last thing we want is to have to go back 😦  They got their first round of the vaccine about 2 weeks ago and they didn’t like it!  It just made them really wimpy and whiny for about 48 hours.  I spent most of the next 2 days rocking all of them in the recliner; I’m surprised it doesn’t have a big imprint of my butt after all the time I spent in it that weekend!  I’m hoping they won’t be like that each month they get it, but I guess we’ll just wait and see.

Rowan has really turned into a thumb sucker here in the last few weeks; you catch him with it all the time.  He uses it to self soothe but he also has it in his mouth at other times.  Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure that bad habit cam from me… And Finn has fallen in love with his Ducky; however, Ross and I have taken to calling it “Ducky the Dictator!”  Because even though he loves it, he can’t hold it in on his own; the other morning I spent 4 hours holding a duck pacifier in his mouth; it’s times like that that you wonder what has happened to your life??? 🙂 If you can’t see clearly from the picture below, Ducky is what’s known as a Wubbanub; it is a Soothie pacifier attached to a beanie animal (in our case its a duck).  And Elliott also has a new addiction…the TV!  Yes, I know that American Academy of Pediatrics says no TV until 2 years old; but Ross just bought a 50 inch plasma and it’s pretty damn hard to miss in our living room.  Anytime it’s on and Elliott is sitting up, he just becomes fixated on it; it’s like a trance and he seems so happy.  See, these are the bad things parents do when they have 3 children to occupy at the same time 🙂

And as an afterthought, me and Ross are doing good.  We celebrated Ross being a 1/4 of the way through his intern year; we have also been celebrating lots of family birthdays here lately including his and mine coming up this week and our anniversary is next week.  So lots of celebrating going on in our house!   And just because it’s been so long since I posted, I’ve put lots of pictures below.  Hope you enjoy!

Much love, Renita

Time Flying By September 25, 2008

Man time has been moving so fast lately…I can’t believe the tots are almost 4 months old :0  Elliott’s surgery went well last week; in the end he had three hernias repaired.  One in his umbilical area and two in the groin; he was a little wimpy after the surgery and almost bought himself a second night in the PICU, but we were released late on the second day.  He had a few problems with pain control in the days afterwards, but is doing great now.  We also owe a huge thank you to Nana P. (Debbie Patrick) who took time off of work and came and helped us out during this time.  For some reason, I don’ think she minded to much cause she got lots of love and special time with the boys in return 🙂

The boys also had some other special visitors this past weekend; due to a huge batch of family birthdays; Ross’ dad and stepmom came in from San Antonio and got to see the boys for the first time in a few months.  We had a huge family dinner at Copelands with me, Ross, the three boys, Katie, Adam, Nick, Becki, Claire, Teresa, and Donald…anybody who says you can’t have a nice dinner with 8 adults and 4 kids under one year of age didn’t see us!  We had a wonderful time and it was great for the boys to finally get to meet all of their Aunts and Uncles.

All of the boys have been growing like crazy; they are now all around 8 lbs!  We are finally starting to outgrow some newborn sized clothes – yea!  There have been lots of other changes also.  Just in the last few days they have started reaching out for toys on their bouncy seats and Elliott has discovered that he loves to stare at himself in the mirror; he thinks he is such a handsome little man!

They have also begun to sleep great and for that I sing “Hallelujah!”  Now don’t get me wrong, we have always been lucky in that they have slept pretty good since coming home from the NICU.  But now they are sleeping in stretches between 6 to 12 hours at night and I feel like a new woman…it’s amazing how much better the world looks through eyes that had a full nights sleep 🙂

We also started PT/OT with Finn this week for his difficulty sucking; the group at Little Works was wonderful and hopefully we will begin to see some improvement in this area.  So, as usual, things are going great.  Lots of pics below to show off how much they are changing.  Hope everyone is doing well and be sure to leave us some comments!

Lots of love, R
